What Touches Your Body Matters
A more intentional approach to clothing, fabrics and everyday materials
Wellness doesn’t stop at what we eat.
We spend nearly every hour of our lives touching something. Clothing, bedding, towels, furniture, skincare, cookware and countless other materials.
That doesn’t mean everything synthetic is automatically dangerous or that you need to throw away your entire closet tonight. Wellness becomes exhausting very quickly when everything is treated like an emergency.
Instead, I believe in becoming more intentional about what we bring into our lives. One place I pay particular attention is fabric.
Why I gravitate toward cotton
Cotton is a natural plant derived fiber that can be breathable, soft and comfortable against the skin.
For everyday basics; T-shirts, underwear, pajamas, towels and bedding, I personally prefer natural fibers whenever practical.
And when shopping, I actually read the fiber content label.
Something marketed as “cotton” may still be a blend containing polyester, elastane or other fibers. Sometimes those additions serve a practical purpose, especially for stretch and performance clothing. The point isn’t perfection.
The point is knowing what you’re buying.
Natural doesn’t automatically mean perfect
This is where wellness information online can get messy.
“Natural” isn’t synonymous with harmless, and “synthetic” isn’t synonymous with toxic.
Textile safety can depend on much more than the name of the fiber: dyes, finishing treatments, manufacturing processes, certifications, durability and how the product is actually used all matter.
So instead of building your life around fear, build it around information.
Buy fewer things when you can. Choose materials intentionally. Wash new clothing before wearing it. Look for transparent brands. Choose quality pieces you’ll actually keep.
And replace things gradually rather than turning wellness into another expensive pursuit of perfection.
Relax reminder:
You don’t need a perfectly non toxic life. You need a more informed one.
